Crown Reduction Pruning
Earthworks Tree Service offers Crown Reduction Pruning, rather than “Thinning”.
The crown is from the first branch to the top of a tree and includes all branches and foliage. A crown reduction is a pruning method that reduces the height and width of a tree crown. We shorten the length of branches to reduce leverage and reduce the chance of failure. A Douglas Fir Tree that has had a crown reduction will stand still on a windy day, versus a Douglas Fir that has been thinned or had no tree care, which will sway significantly.
Crown reduction is a more involved process to perform and may increase costs, slightly. It is effective and in the best interest of the tree, and worth it.
