Wind Sail Pruning

At Earthworks, we use the best available methods to keep your trees thriving. Through
years of experience working tree care industry, we have learned that “thinning” conifers
in the Pacific Northwest is not an effective way to reduce branch failure. Thinning is
removing every 5th branch or so and trimming away interior foliage from the central
trunk. The loss of the interior foliage causes the branches to compensate by growing
longer, making them less stable and more likely to break. To meet your needs for safety
and preservation, we instead practice crown-reduction pruning, which encourages
interior growth and reduces the outside growth to create more compact trees that will
better withstand the elements.
